Sun out, top down!

Friday, June 30, 2017.

It had been a dreary 2 weeks of on-again, off-again rain. Even on depressing days, however; driving Daisy uplifts the soul. The sound a 1960’s british sports car’s engine makes sings a song like none other. The feeling of being behind the wheel is ethereal. There are small drops of rain dripping inside from random areas, the small windscreen wipers doing their best to clear the way, and the wet pavement unfolding in front of me still make for a wonderful driving experience.

Oh, but let the rain stop and the clouds clear. Sun out, top down! It’s a completely different driving adventure. The sun in your face, the wind in your hair. Indescribable joy. The sounds in the cockpit change, the exhaust sounds change, the views change. Your soul delights in the feeling of being free. Unencumbered by the stresses of everyday life.

When I made it home from work, my 13 year old son, Jeremy, wanted to go stay at his grandmother’s with his cousin, Meghan. My parents live on the lake about 30 minutes away, so what could make for a better father and son drive? Friday afternoon, sun shining, twisty country roads, one of my kids, and my 1965 MGB with the top off. It doesn’t get any better than this.
